This has happened to me so many times, and I always end up adding up the money that I wasted on stuff, seeing what I could have gotten with that money instead! So I've decided to make a list of rules of purchasing and even though I don't always follow it, I do try ;D!
Rules to Purchasing!
1. Look at the return policy: If you can get all your money back, go for it! However if it's just store credit, make sure you shop there more than occasionally There's no point in buying something that your not sure you love, if your just going to be left with store credit at a store you never shop at!
2. If it's pricey, come back for it! Don't let that dress that's out of you budget break the bank! It's okay to splurge, but make sure you want it! Go home, sleep on the idea, and make sure you want it! If your going to feel guilty, it's probably your brain telling you not to spend that much on the dress because you know in your heart your not absolutely in kove with it. However if a week goes by, and your still thinking about it, go get it! Just make sure your not actually breaking the bank!
3. Sales! They are great to wait for if you know that something you want is going on sale soon! But don't get suckered into buying a bunch of stuff on sale becaise u feel like your "getting a great deal" and "wow - I'm going to save so much money"! Trust me, been there, still doing that! It's better to spend a bit extra on something you know your going to love than to just buy a bunch of stuff just because it's on sale!
4. It's almost been a month and I still haven't worn it! You bought something, still haven't worn it, and the date to return it by is coming up. Return it! (unless it's for a preplanned special occasion like a wedding you've already been invited to -- don't convince yourself that there will be something to wear a fancy dress like that to if it's not already in your calender) You obviously don't like it as much as you thought you did, and I guarantee that you will be able to find something that you really love with that money! Don't get stuck with something you don't like, return it and find something new!
5. Cheaper alterantes! Like I said, its okay to splurge but not on everything! Pick a few things that you really want to have that name brand on and leave the rest! Nobody can tell but you, and knockoffs are really a great way to go! Keep your eyes out for sample sales, and go to the thrift store! You never know what brands you will find there!
6. Useless things! It's important to but yourself things you don't need but really want, but not all the time! Eyeing that YSL lipstick?!? Buy something small for yourself once a month to keep you happy! Dying to grab those Miu Miu heels even though you have nowhere to wear them?!? Treat yourself to it after accomplishing a great goal!
